Camera/Photography Whizzes..I'm in need of your help..

[weheartit]

Apologies for the lack of beauty related posts just recently. But, i've decided i want to save up to treat myself to a new camera. Now, i only really dabbled in photography in college and that was mainly spent in a darkroom developing photographs the old-school way (which i loved so much i basically lived in the dark every Tuesday afternoon..), so this means i'm a little bit clueless when it comes to cameras of the 'posh kind' :)

I want a DLSR, ideally fairly small in size and fairly lightweight and compact so that i can carry it most places with me. I'll be using it for blogging so i want something with an immense bit of focus, but also something that would be ideal for taking on holiday (being shoved in my flight bag means it does need to be quite small so i can still cram in spare pairs of shoes and other stuff i can't fit in my already overflowing suitcase..)

 [weheartit]

I also want something fairly simple, because to put it politely, i'm not exactly the brightest crayon in the box when it comes to working stuff and a shit load of settings and buttons isn't going to do much for me. Obviously i do know certain things, i'm not that stupid.. i can handle certain amounts of camera related stuff (after studying photography i have got quite a good grasp of most things but i just don't do confusing things..)  I basically want something that will take some really good quality photos but something that i won't need to sell my parents house in order to afford..

That said,
Any suggestions?

If you have a link to your blog with your photographs or camera related info then that would be very much welcomed :)

  1. I recently 'upgraded' from my Nikon D3000 which worked fine for daylight photos, however when the light was slightly dark photos came out a bit poor quality..
I've now got the Canon EOS 600D which is brilliant, it also has a swivel screen so you can see yourself if you use a tripod etc! Always handy.
When I travel I tend to separate the body from the lens as they can get a little bulky :/
I'd just say look up on reviews for cameras, there are soo many good ones out there :)

    1. OO thankyou thats really good to know. The digital one i have now goes blurry when i try and take photos in dim light, and it normally doesn't bother me because i only really take photos in light anyway, i just need something to focus better in darker light for when i need to take photos for uni or for my blog.. The one you have sounds really good im off to have a look at it :) I just have no idea where to start so im trying to find a few good recommendations to start with :] so thankyou muchly! x

  2. As far as DSLR's go, all of the cameras are pretty big. I don't know of any full size DSLR's that you will be able to just throw in your bag (unless it is a fairly large bag) especially without a fully protected case. That being said, I use a Canon Digital Rebel XT. It is discontinued now but you can get if off of Ebay. It's a great camera and it has great ratings, but was replaced by the later Canon models. If you want to see the type of pictures it takes, check out my "Naked Palette Review" since I used it there for a product. Also, it depends on your price range. What is it exactly? If you want really good quality photos, I have recommended the Canon "G series" to a lot of my friends. It is fairly small and it is the middle man between a point-and shoot and a DSLR. The cameras in this series have fancy features, but they also have basic ones (macro, sport, etc) and you have the option to add on extra lenses if you would like. The thing about real DSLR's is that the lenses are very important, and they can range anywhere from $70 to thousands, so it really is quite the investment. I have found that the lens is generally more important than the camera (though the camera also matters). So I would say if you want good pictures and a great camera, but want something smaller and simpler, to opt for the "G series," the best one I have experienced being the Canon G12. It has 10 megapixels which is great for your purpose and it retails for around $400 on Amazon. If you were to invest in a DSLR the camera would be about $700+ and the lens would be an additional $100+ at the minimum. I hope this helps! Good luck!

  4. If it's your first I'd recommend something like the canon 1000d :) I studied for years so I've done everything from that up to a 5d mark II. You can pick them up for like £250 (body and standard lens ) which is great and after a few days playing you'd be fine with it :)

If your budget is higher ' compacts ' are really popular right now, but they start at like £500+ :)

If you have any more questions feel free to tweet me or something!

  5. I was in the same boat and was desperate for a DLSR but eventually after a lot of shopping around I went for a bridge camera, and I'm glad I made that decision! I went for the Fujifilm Finepix HS20. I got the camera, a bag and an expensive memory card all for £270ish at Jessops. Have a look on their site at all their deals! The only major difference between the two is that you can't change the lens on a bridge camera but that really isn't a problemo for me! The zoom is absolutely fantastic and the picture quality blows me away every time. I use when walking around the countryside, as well as taking good quality photos for my blog, and filming in 1080p for youtube! Seriously go and check it out, you'll be saving yourself a lot of hassle and money with a Bridge camera, they are wonderful!
